rugged designs ... the beginning
Rugged Designs is an organisation dedicated to product design and is run by Cape Town-based Interior Designer, Cara Siegers. Launched in November 2009, the concept sprung from a desire to create an eco-friendly range of floor coverings, using only recycled fabrics and natural materials.
The end result is an eco-aware homeware range of hand- knitted interior accessories using over-sized needles, to reform and recycle waste material. Each design is overseen by Cara to ensure that patterns and textures are uniquely crafted with outstanding quality; and to ensure that the overall look and feel is cosy, contemporary and crafted. These designs are off-beat // quirky and challenge what truly is "green" about Eco-living in South Africa.
Our local craftswomen assist in the assembly of all designs and are encouraged to add their unique style // colour combinations to keep all projects fresh and creative. Our objective is to aid in empowering and uplifting these women, by imparting both a creative response and set of skills that can then be passed forward.
